Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, Christine Marcus-Johnson received her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Howard University in Washington, DC. She is currently a Research & Development Manager at The Kraft Heinz Company.
One of Christine’s favorite homestyle dishes include Escoveitched Fish with Festival . Escovitch describes a process of cooking whereby fish is usually fried and then doused liberally with a pickling sauce made from vinegar, pimento, onions, pepper and carrots. Festival is basically a fried cornbread fritter or dumpling. Unlike traditional Jamaican Fried Dumplings, Festival is sweet, crisp on the outside and dense.
When Christine is not working or studying, you can find her swimming or playing a game of volleyball. Beyond sports, she enjoys arts and crafts, a great match for an engineering background. In her free time, she even makes wedding invitations!
Christine leaves a small piece of advice for interested students, “In order to build your professional and social network outside of class and group work, get involved with the Student Advisory Board and attend the social outings as much as you can.”
