Motorola is a company famous for its devotion to innovation, for its desire to develop new technology. This was the basis for the Breaking Mobile Limits competition: student groups of four would work together, mentored by an engineer from Motorola, to create the next big thing in mobile phone technology–and judging from the results, it was a great success.

The winning team of Dennis Ivan Diaz, Paul Park, Ben Rahnema, and Nir Yungster designed what they have dubbed the Moto Ring. Using a series of programmable gestures, the wearer can answer the phone, send a text message, listen to voicemail, and more. Check out the video below to see how it works:

Over 50 students participated in the 12-week long contest. Teams could choose either the prototype or business track and were graded on a number of criteria including originality of concept, ability to manufacture, and overall improvement to daily life. The winning team received a cash prize of $2000 and a brand new Moto X apiece. They will serve as Motorola Engineering Ambassadors and be invited to attend select company events with company leaders. Diaz, Park, Rahnema, and Yungster will also be able to present their winning idea to Motorola’s chief executives later in the year. Congratulations, guys!
